Homemade Sandwich Bread
Homemade bread is one of my favorite things to make- and to save money on at the store! But unfortunately, I think it is something that has been turned into this huge daunting task for people who have never tried baking bread- and it doesn’t need to be this way! The sourdough craze has been great in the sense that it has people starting to make their own bread, but it has also led to some overwhelm around something that is as simple as flour, salt, yeast and water. People have gotten all stressed out over yeast growth, discard, storage options- you name it!
Making your own bread is one of the easiest ways to save money at the grocery store. I am picky about buying organic bread and it is upwards of $6.99 a loaf even at Aldi! If you have a family and go through more than one loaf a week then you can see how this savings would add up over a month!
While I enjoy making sourdough, it is not the only bread that I make or even the one that I make the most. I have found a tried and true sandwich bread recipe that we love - both for loaves and also for making dinner rolls. It isn’t complicated and it freezes well if you want to bang out a few weeks’ worth at once! This recipe card below makes 3 loaves. There is no feeding a starter or having to wait for days like you do when working with sourdough - this is a much quicker process that still yields the desired goal of fresh, homemade bread without all of the processed ingredients. That is a win win for this mom!
I am certainly not a pro baker (or photographer for that matter), but I have made this enough to encourage you to give it a try if you have been wanting to give bread making a try. It really is not challenging at all! Full disclosure- I do not have a bread maker and I have never used one so I am no help to you if that is your usual method! If sourdough has overwhelmed you and you have thrown in the towel- I encourage you to try this one to get back into the bread making game!
If you give this a try and love it I would love for you to reply to this email with your thoughts! I hope your family loves it as much as we do!
